Stone Witches is an invitation to discover the beauty of rocks and minerals through art and poetry.
By combining art and science, I share my passion for stones with every reader.

I started Stone Witches in 2023 as an illustration project where I explored ways to symbolically represent stones and their properties. It is also an opportunity for me, as a geologist, to share my knowledge of rocks and minerals. For each piece of art, I complement my existing knowledge with additional investigation and attempt to highlight interesting facts about the stones. In the end, each piece of art comes with some scientific vulgarisation, briefly introducing each stone.

I drew and wrote every part of this series, but it would never have seen the light of day without my incredible friend Nadg, who is doing the proofreading and layout, and is even helping me with some artistic decisions!

Stone Witches - Volume 1

In February 2024, I ran a successful Kickstarter campaign giving birth to a small zine that mixes poetry, geology and illustration. This was the first release of Stone Witches, featuring 10 illustrations, poetry and short scientific presentations.

Stone Witches - Volume 2

Stone Witches is still ongoing, and I am now working on a second, more detailed volume. I am hoping to include 37 witches in this new volume. I have already created 12 of them and I hope to have finished them all by fall 2027. For this second series, I am trying to incorporate more scientific facts into my art and showcase a wider variety of minerals.

Hello! Thank you for your interest in commissioning me! You will find all the necessary information below. The different options are grouped into three price ranges. Click on the pictures below to find out more.

For commercial work or if you have any questions, please email me directly at [email protected]

Speedpainting and sketch commissions

Starting at 50€

These are the fastest and most accessible options I can offer. Depending on my workload, I can complete them within one or two weeks. If you wish to have your characters drawn but have a limited budget, then you have come to the right place.

For these, you will only receive a WIP after the first rough sketch has been completed. Payment is required upfront if the total cost is below 100€, otherwise, at least half is required upfront.

Complex lineart commissions

Starting at 100€

These are cleaner and more complex than the sketches, but they are still based on line art with basic shading, which allows me to finish them in 2–3 weeks depending on my workload. This is the best way if you want complex work with a strong narrative on a medium budget.

For these, you will receive a WIP after the first sketch and before the final line art is cleaned up, as well as a colour WIP. At least half of the payment must be made upfront and the other half just before I send out the high-resolution file.

Fully rendered commissions

Starting at 200€

For these works, I will apply all my skills to provide you with a highly detailed, fully rendered illustration, ncluding more complex settings and narratives. Work on these can take between 1 and 2 months. The cost is higher for these options, but they are worth it!

For this, you will receive multiple WIPs throughout the process and be able to make choices at each major step. Payment can be made in up to four parts, but at least a quarter of the total cost must be paid upfront.

Speedpainting

For these works, I quickly create strong shapes using the lasso tool and focus on the mood, enjoying rough textures and bright colours. The focus will be on the overall vibe, and any characters will be silhouettes with low detail.

It may be based on a photo or screenshot, if you wish. Only one variant will be provided.

Character Sketch

Lineart 50-100€, Color 80-160€

These quick sketches of unique characters use strong, dynamic line art and base colours to create a cool mood. This is the perfect way to give your latest TTRPG character a cool illustration on a limited budget.

You get to choose between 2 poses and can give direction for the color setting. The character will be depicted in between half and full body, with no background.

Sketch Page

These are ideal for depicting your character in various poses and outfits, and for conveying their personality. You will receive up to five sketches of your character in various full-body poses. One of these can be a portrait.

The lines are rougher and less detailed than for the character sketches. All the sketches must depict the same character. You will be able to choose poses from a selection of suggestions.

These are cleaner and more complex than the sketches, but they are still based on line art with basic shading, which allows me to finish them in 2–3 weeks depending on my workload. This is the best way if you want complex work with a strong narrative on a medium budget.

My name is Elwyn Rain (formerly known as Ewylana Art) and I am a freelance artist based in France who loves to draw fantasy and TTRPG illustrations. I mostly draw medieval fantasy and sometimes retrofuturistic universes, taking inspiration from my TTRPG games. My favourite subject to paint in the medieval fantasy genre is dwarves!I am also a geologist passionate about rocks and fossils, which I love to include in my drawings.I am mostly self-taught, but I participated in a couple of mentorship programmes under the guidance of Paul Scott Canavan, Onyrica and Indicreates, which helped me to further develop my skills.I am currently seeking freelance opportunities in the TTRPG industry and for book covers. Please email me if you have any questions — I would be really happy to work with you!

Springtime Hope

This artwork is a personal project that I completed following Paul Scott Canavan's Bootcamp brief again, this time on my own. My initial idea was to draw a cute family composed of two dwarves and two cows, with the mother-child dynamics mirroring each other.

Anomalocaris Rider

This artwork was created during Paul Scott Canavan’s Mastering Imaginative Realism Bootcamp. The brief was to create a piece in the style of a Magic: The Gathering hero's card, depicting a character and their animal companion within the theme of 'The Great Hunt'. I chose to depict strange merfolk in a world inspired by Cambrian fossils.

Private commission - Final battle

This artwork was created for a private client to illustrate one of the major battles from their Curse of Stradh DnD campaign. During this battle, the dragonborn cleric sacrificed himself to defeat Baba Lysaga.

The Crows Path

This artwork was created based on an older Skyrim-inspired speedpainting. I approached it in the same way as my usual speedpaintings: no real planning ahead, and just going with the flow. It took me a really short time compared to my usual process, as I intentionally made it rougher than usual, especially in the areas with fewer details.

Private commission - Mothryn

This artwork was created for a private client to depict their Wildsea TTRPG character: a Mothryn sailor who fights using capoeira.

Private commission - Wizard sketch

This oil painting is fanart inspired by Oblivion Remastered. It was painted on a cardboard canvas measuring 40 x 50 cm.

Stone witches - Rhodrocrosite

This artwork is part of my Stone Witches series. For this series, I have adopted a simpler style, taking inspiration from tarot-style art and Art Nouveau.

Stone witches - Ruby

This artwork is part of my Stone Witches series. For this series, I have adopted a simpler style, taking inspiration from tarot-style art and Art Nouveau.

Private commission - Silver Dragon

This artwork was created for a private client depicting their D&D character who has been turned into a dragon. They wanted the final piece to be in a format similar to a Magic: The Gathering card.

Private commission - Pyromancer

This artwork was created for a private client depicting their D&D character: a fire-focused sorcerer. They wanted the final piece to be in a format similar to a Magic: The Gathering card.

Mourning Elf

This artwork was created for the Original Classics zine, a project in which we turned masterworks studies into OC drawings. I chose to base my work on Henry Fuseli's Armor and Psyche painting and to depict one of my DnD characters' tragic backstory. I took the opportunity to experiment with a different rendering style based on Fuseli's brushwork.

Stone witches - Aragonite

This artwork is part of my Stone Witches series. For this series, I have adopted a simpler style, taking inspiration from tarot-style art and Art Nouveau.
